Welcome to this week's Waiting on Wednesday. Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we showcase upcoming releases we are looking forward to.
This week I am featuring two upcoming contemporary titles--one YA and one NA--that you may or may not have heard of. But regardless, they are two I am very much looking forward to and have wishlisted because I do not have a chance in hell of obtaining ARCs for. Oh how I wish. And oh how I wish I had been able to obtain copies at BEA. :(
Title: Being Sloane Jacobs
Author: Lauren Morrill
Release Date: January 7th, 2014
Description from Goodreads: Meet Sloane Emily Jacobs: a seriously stressed-out figure-skater from Washington, D.C., who choked during junior nationals and isn’t sure she’s ready for a comeback. What she does know is that she’d give anything to escape the mass of misery that is her life.\It sounds like The Parent Trap crossed with the Cutting Edge. Can I have it, please? This sounds like SO MUCH FUN! And if you didn't know, I have a huge figure skating obsession. GIMME.
Now meet Sloane Devon Jacobs, a spunky ice hockey player from Philly who’s been suspended from her team for too many aggressive hip checks. Her punishment? Hockey camp, now, when she’s playing the worst she’s ever played. If she messes up? Her life will be over.
When the two Sloanes meet by chance in Montreal and decide to trade places for the summer, each girl thinks she’s the lucky one: no strangers to judge or laugh at Sloane Emily, no scouts expecting Sloane Devon to be a hero. But it didn’t occur to Sloane E. that while avoiding sequins and axels she might meet a hockey hottie—and Sloane D. never expected to run into a familiar (and very good-looking) face from home. It’s not long before the Sloanes discover that convincing people you’re someone else might be more difficult than being yourself.
Author: Sara Zarr, Tara Altebrando
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Release Date: December 24th, 2013
Description from Goodreads: It's time to meet your new roomie.Hey, look! It's a New Adult book with some substance that doesn't focus on dysfunctional/unhealthy relationships and sex! Here's looking at you, Beautiful Disaster! *winks* Also by one of my favorite contemporary authors? I NEED IT.
When East Coast native Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment, she shoots off an e-mail to coordinate the basics: television, microwave, mini-fridge. That first note to San Franciscan Lauren sparks a series of e-mails that alters the landscape of each girl's summer -- and raises questions about how two girls who are so different will ever share a dorm room.
As the countdown to college begins, life at home becomes increasingly complex. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives . . . and each other. Even though they've never met.
National Book Award finalist Sara Zarr and acclaimed author Tara Altebrando join forces for a novel about growing up, leaving home, and getting that one fateful e-mail that assigns your college roommate.
