One of the HUGE highlights of Day One was meeting Mandee from VeganYANerds. She came all the way from Australia and she is one of the sweetest bloggers I know. She's exactly like she is in her videos and we discussed going Vegan, Vegan blogs, and took a trip to the ladies' together.
Me and Mandee. If you don't know her, you should. She's AMAZING.
Christina and Steph managed to push to the front and hand books to all of us that couldn't get up there. We missed copies of All Our Yesterdays and there were never copies of Tandem, but we did manage to grab the three other books they had available. And ALL of us got copies. So MAJOR props to those ladies for risking their lives for the rest of us.
Maria V. Snyder. It really happened. O_O
The rest of the day was pretty much a whirlwind of books, networking, meeting bloggers, and running back and forth from my suitcase to the show floor. Like it was so busy there was no time to think. It was just go, go, go, and I never thought I would say that I loved doing something like this (I'm pretty much a hermit), but I loved it. And oh god how I miss it. I miss the excitement, the thrills, the socializing, and everything. I think it takes putting yourself outside your comfort zone to truly experience all that life has to offer. And meeting all the bookish people!! People like me who love books and reading like me. That was the best part! I have never been around so many people that I have so much in common with! It was one of the most amazing things to ever happen to me! And it just made me realize HOW MUCH I am in the right business. It was like that light bulb moment for me.
After Day One at BEA, we went to two parties (Macmillan and the Penguin Bird Bash), and I am sorry to say I don't have any pics of those, and I think part of the reason is because I was just so exhausted and ready for bed. I was done. But I did manage to snap a pick of the very exclusive gift I received at the Macmillan party. This was held at the Houndstooth Pub, by the way. VERY nice bar. Meeting Ksenia was everything I thought it would be and more. She is kind and funny and just WHOA. The food was good though I could have eaten anything by that point and it would have tasted like heaven. I also got to hang out a little more with Jamie from The Perpetual Page Turner and April from Good Books and Good Wine, so that was nice. I LOVE THOSE GIRLS.
The Cuddlebuggery ladies read this early and loved it. I wish I could read it now.
READ FASTER, KARA!
Giselle grabbed me a copy of Parasite by Mira Grant, and Steph let me pick through her books that she didn't want and I found a couple that I DID want. They were all very generous to me. I would have done the same for them if I could have. I rested up pretty well for Day Three and I was ready to go in the morning, even though I had little sleep.
