Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. This is where we post upcoming releases we are looking forward to.
I started research for this week's post on Thursday of last week because I have so much fun looking through book catalogs and finding books that I haven't seen in a lot of other places. This week I thought I would feature a newer teen imprint that should be getting more attention than it's getting. Though I didn't much care for the first book I read under this imprint, I think some of their Spring 2013 titles sound delightfully intriguing. Go, Soho Teen!
And then I have a new one from Houghton Mifflin. Both mysteries this week.
Publisher: Soho Teen
Release Date: March 12th, 2013
Description from Goodreads: Sixteen-year-old Devon Mackintosh has always felt like an outsider at Keaton, the prestigious California boarding school perched above the Pacific. As long as she’s not fitting in, Devon figures she might as well pad her application to Stanford’s psych program. So junior year, she decides to become a peer counselor, a de facto therapist for students in crisis. At first, it seems like it will be an easy fly-on-the-wall gig, but her expectations are turned upside down when Jason Hutchins (a.k.a. “Hutch”), one of the Keaton’s most popular students, commits suicide.
Devon dives into her new role providing support for Hutch’s friends, but she’s haunted by her own attachment to him. The two shared an extraordinary night during their first week freshman year; it was the only time at Keaton when she felt like someone else really understood her. As the secrets and confessions pile up in her sessions, Devon comes to a startling conclusion: Hutch couldn't have taken his own life. Bound by her oath of confidentiality—and tortured by her unrequited love—Devon embarks on a solitary mission to get to the bottom of Hutch's death, and the stakes are higher than she ever could have imagined.
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children
Release Date: May 7th, 2013
Description from Goodreads: All dead. No one survived. All dead.
This morbid chant haunts seventeen-year-old Blue as she trudges through the countryside with just the clothes on her back, heading to her childhood home on the ocean. Something absolutely awful has happened, she knows it, but she doesn’t know what. She can’t even remember her name, so she calls herself Blue. This gripping survival story—peppered with flashbacks to bittersweet times with her boyfriend, Jake—strips life down to its bare bones. Blue learns, with the help of a seemingly magical stray dog and kind people along the road, that the important thing is to live.
So those are my picks for this week. What do you think? I will admit I am running out of choices. I have no idea what I am going to pick for next week because no new catalogs have been posted in a while. I will either have to start searching adult catalogs or post something you've already seen. Or maybe I'll get lucky and a new catalog will go up. Here's hoping!

Two more great titles! I haven't read any Soho Teen books yet, but almost all of their books sound fantastic and unafraid to push the barrier a little bit. I'm really excited for Escape Theory.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course I'll be on the lookout for Nothing But Blue. It sounds deliciously creepy and I love stories featuring amnesia.
