Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga's Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.
It was another pretty big week for me bookwise this week. I got some awesome books in the mail, and I got approved for a couple of E-ARCs that I have been pining for like crazy! I'm not feeling particularly chatty this week, but I do want to thank all of my readers for their continuing support. I love that I get to share my love of books with all of you, and I know Lyn feels the same way.
Oh, and apparently I will be going to BEA this year. So if you have plans to go, maybe I will see you there?
On to the books!

The Secret of the Nightingale Palace by Dana Sachs
I received this for an upcoming blog tour with TLC Book Tours and I can't wait to read it. I hat the opportunity to request this earlier in 2012 and I decided not to, but it came my way again with the opportunity for a blog tour and I took that as a sign. It sounds right up my alley.
The One I Left Behind by Jennifer McMahon
Christina from A Reader of Fictions sent this to me because she thought I might like it and it wasn't a genre she particularly enjoyed. I have had this one on my TBR for a while so I told her to send it my way and that I would read it as soon as I could. Might be a while, but it sounds great!
The Devil's Metal by Karina Halle
Karina sent me my editor's copies (yes there are 3 of them) before they went out of stock. This book got a publishing deal with Diversion Books, and they are strictly an e-book company, so if you want a paperback copy, get them now. That's why she sent me three.
In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters (NetGalley)
Thank you to Amulet Books for this one.
Starglass by Phoebe North (Edelweiss)
How happy was I to be approved for this one?? Thanks, Simon and Schuster! I hope I love it.
Fuse (Pure #2) by Julianna Baggott
After being declined for this on Edelweiss (sob), it appeared on NetGalley, so I re-requested and was approved. Thank you, Grand Central. I'll hit you up over there from now on, I guess. I can't wait to read this. I LOVED Pure.
And that's it for me this week! I was really happy with my haul this week. My requesting is getting out of control again though, so I need to cut it out! I can't keep up with the reading and I haven't played Warcraft in two weeks! SOB!! Leave me a comment and I will try and come visit your posts. Happy reading!

Wow, thanks for letting me know about Fuse! For some reason I missed it and I'm auto-approved by this publisher! I need to start reading Karina Halle's series sometime soon. Keep hearing good things about it. Good Reading!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I miss a lot on NG. I find so many new books from these haul posts!
DeleteStarGlass looks so pretty. Enjoy your new books. They all look awesome. I love the cover for Star Glass by the way.
ReplyDeleteGrace
Thanks, Grace. :)
DeleteI'm very envious of you going to BEA, it's one of those things I want to do if I ever have a lot of spare cash (or free flights to the US) - so basically never :P. I hope you have a brilliant time though!
ReplyDeleteAlso I love the cover for Fuse, haven't read Pure yet but will add it to my list.
You never know, Luna. I never thought I would go either. But this is a good year because many of my favorite people are going. And I'll bring back a lot of great books and maybe a giveaway once I've read them? :)
Delete*_* We're quite excited about In the Shadow of Blackbirds. And when you mentioned Fuse was on NetGalley, I started shrieking and immediately requested for it. I have no idea why it's classified under Adult though.
ReplyDeleteStacking the Shelves #12
LOL I love that I made you shriek! Yay!
DeletePure and Fuse are actually considered crossover titles. They are published by Grand Central, which is an adult publisher, because some of the themes present in the novels are more mature than those presented in most YA books.
I have yet to read Pure! :) I've had it for a while! And StarGlass looks pretty good also :) Awesome haul.
ReplyDeleteJanina

DeleteERMAGHERDDDDD I did not know Fuse was on netgalley. I just requested it ha ha. AND I just requested In The Shadow Of Blackbirds yayyyy auto approval for Amulet.
ReplyDeleteAND OMG.
I WILL BE AT BEA, let's have shots or a beer together? Yes?
AND OMG OMG Starglassssss I AM SO JEALOUS. Phoebe is the bomb. I see her at signings a lot and she's always got cool hair and is so super awesome.
<33333 Happy happy happy reading!
ERMAGHEERRRRRDDDD I love your comments! They make me giggle! Yay for auto-approval! I love when that happens.
DeleteYou are going?? YEEESSSSSS! SO happy to hear this news! We must meet up. :)
I can't wait to read Starglass. The early buzz is awesome already!
Thanks, April!
I still need to read Pure and I'm glad I have my ecopy of Karina Halle's book already, but what an awesome haul, Kara! I hope you enjoy all your reads and will be looking forward to your review of In The Shadow of Blackbirds. Have a good week, darling!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kara! You really need to read Pure though. I think you will really enjoy it!
DeleteAwesome week!! OMG those copies of The Devil's Metal look so pretty!! Yay for Fuse!! I got it last week and am dying to get to it!!
ReplyDeleteMe too!!
DeleteAll of those look like awesome reads! I hope you enjoy all you got :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS!
I hadn't seen In the Shadow of Blackbirds but the summary looks interesting especially since flu season always makes me think of the Spanish influenza (I'm a history major!)
ReplyDeleteOh yay! Hubby has a history degree. I wish you luck with that.
DeleteOh man, must request Starglass!!! Edelweiss hates me, but maybe a miracle will occur :-)
ReplyDeleteYou never know. I thought for sure they were going to decline me for that, but they did not. It was a nice surprise!
DeleteI still need to read Pure! Edelweiss is so hit and miss. It's so random what books they approve you for. Enjoy all that you got this week! Happy reading and thanks for sharing!

Our STS this week!
They are. I dance when I get an Edelweiss approval though. It's like a really great Christmas gift!
DeleteOh In the shadow of Blackbirds is one of my most anticipated reads! Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteCheck Out My New Books - Letterbox Love!
Quick! Request it! :)
DeleteI found "Pure" this weekend at an independent bookstore this weekend *cheer cheer*.
ReplyDeleteYAY!! It's so good! But weird. And dark. I love it.
DeleteJealous of The Devil's Metal! I wish I had the $$ to grab a copy. :)
ReplyDeleteAwww, I wish you did too!
DeleteOooh, I'm really excited to hear how Starglass is, I didn't request it because I'm nervous, but I really hope to hear good things. I'm curious about In the Shadows of Blackbirds as well, and I adore the cover of Fuse even though I probably won't start that series until it wraps up next year.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Kara!
Me too. I hope I love Starglass. I'm really happy with the books I got this week. A lot of anticipated titles. I hope you really enjoy Fuse when you read it!
DeleteSo jealous for Starglass! I've been following Phoebe's blog for a really long time so I'm really curious to read it.
ReplyDeleteGreat haul, Kara! Almost all of these are new to me, but I hope you enjoy them all :)
ReplyDeleteIn the Shadow of Blackbirds sounds fascinating, and such a creepy cover too! I so want to read Starglass, and am quite envious that you have a copy. ;) Phoebe North is awesome. Great haul, Kara!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leanne. :)
DeleteOoh, I can't wait to see what you think of In the Shadow of Blackbirds, Kara! I just found out about that book today and it definitely sounds interesting, but I'm going to wait for some reviews before I request, because it seems like, more often than not, books pitched as creepy are laughable at best. And I got Fuse this week, too. I just need to read Pure first. ;) And I'm really, really looking forward to seeing what you think of Starglass. I didn't request it because sci-fi isn't always for me, and the synopsis sounded like a lot could go wrong, but if it's good I might just request it. (Though I think I might be too late and EW has "already met their quota". Pffft.) Great haul, Kara!
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I wait on a lot of books before I request them too. I love creepy books. Did you try Long Lankin? Slowly paced but super creepy. At least I thought so.
DeleteI actually sort of think Fuse was pretty creepy too. That book gave me some serious shivers.
I am a huge fan of Sci-Fi, so bring it on, I say.
I thought it was only Penguin who had the stupid 'met quota' message.
Right? I got declined for Fuse on Edelweiss too, so stupid. Great haul! So excited about The Devil's Metal being picked up, what an awesome keepsake she sent! Great haul!
ReplyDeleteI know! Thanks, Jenni!
DeleteFabulous books this week. In the Shadow of Blackbirds and Starglass look fabulous. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Stacking The Shelves!
I haven't read Pure, boo on me. :) In the Shadow of Blackbirds looks like a book I might enjoy. Lovely, haul this week, Kara.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you would like Pure or not! I THINK you might. I can't wait to read In the Shadow of Blackbirds. Steampunk is one of my favorite genres.
DeleteI can't wait to read Shadow of Blackbirds... it looks so fantastically creepy! The Devil's Metal sounds really great, I really need to pick up one of Karina's books one of these days. :) Great haul, happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, girl. No pressure to get a review out for the McMahon book. I did my tour post, so read it whenever you want. :) And do with it what you will when you're done. Okay?
ReplyDeleteOkay! Thanks! You know how it is. LOL.
