Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga's Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.
So this week we had another Kindle Daily Deal, an ARC approval, a gift from a friend, a purchase at Target, and a book for an upcoming blog tour. All in all, a pretty exciting week of books for me! *spins* Which is good because all week long I have been sick and when I would get new reading material, it was pretty much the only excitement in my day. Sad, isn't it?
An Uncommon Education by Elizabeth Percer
This is for a blog tour on January 24th. I will be reviewing it then, so if you are interested in this book, come back and see my thoughts on that day. Thank you to TLC Book Tours and Harper Perennial for my lovely finished copy.
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
I saw this at Target and had to buy it after discussing at length during my most recent Top Ten Tuesday how I had not read this yet. I vowed to read it this year, and I will, I just don't know when yet.
If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch
I had already been approved for an eARC of this book, but I would much rather read it in actual book form, so thank you to St. Martin's Griffin for my lovely unsolicited copy. This book is a lot shorter than I had thought it was. I'll hopefully be reading this soon!
Speechless by Hannah Harrington
This was the Kindle Daily Deal at one point this week, and who could pass it up for a $1.99, especially after my co-blogger Lyn raved about it in here review here.
The Impossibility of Tomorrow (Incarnation #2) by Avery Williams
Thanks to Simon and Schuster and Edelweiss for approving my request for book two of this series. I really enjoyed The Alchemy of Forever. It totally ended up being a me book. Not flawless by any means, but I really fell for the story, the mystery, and the characters. I am really looking forward to this one.
Echo (The Soul Seekers #2) by Alyson Noel
Thanks for this go to my co-blogger Lyn. What a lovely Christmas gift that caught me completely by surprise. I found myself really shocked when I enjoyed the first book of this series after reading book one of The Immortals series and thinking it was pretty shitty. Evermore has quite a reputation in the blogging community. But I found the writing much improved, and though the romance is still cheesy, I really enjoyed the story and atmosphere. I am really looking forward to seeing where this series goes. Thanks, Lyn!
And that's it for me this week. All in all, a pretty good week. I know I talk to much and I would totally save time with these posts if I would just list the books and get on with it, but sometimes I cannot help myself and I get in moods where I like to ramble. That's me! I'm starting to feel better, so leave me a comment to your STS posts and I will come see what you got! Until next week, happy reading!

You had a great week in books!! I hope that they were able to cheer you up a little. Being sick is sucky!! I'm glad that you are starting to feel better! I hope you enjoy the LOTR books. I think I only read The Hobbit and then The first 2. I don't think I read the last one. Maybe I will get to that this year. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, they did! I can't wait to read LOTR finally. This has been hanging over my head for a while.
DeleteYOU BOUGHT LOTR!!!! *hugs* I hope you love them, Kara! It's high fantasy, which is a hit-or-miss amongst most, but I just LOVE them! :D Also, Speechless was phenomenal, so I hope you enjoy that one too!(: Wonderful haul, Kara, and happy reading!

ReplyDeleteI know. I actually really liked Fated. And I was surprised by that. :)
DeleteSpeechless was an incredible book, and Hannah Harrington is one of my favourite YA authors! Also, I'm currently reading If You Find Me, and while I have no strong opinion about it yet it IS a swift, engaging read. :) Enjoy all and fabulous haul as always, Kara. :)

DeleteI hope you like "Speechless" - I LOVE Harrington's writing!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Lord of the Rings, either ... I have it and have had it for YEARS, but still haven't read it. I do plan to read The Hobbit this year! And Speechless! I need to read that one soon ... I really love Hannah Harrington's writing.
ReplyDeleteGreat books! :)
The Lord of the Rings scares the crap out of me! Speechless is fantastic, I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGreat haul!!
Scares the crap out of you because of its size or because it's actually scary? :)
DeleteIf You Find Me looks so good! And I totally agree with you about the reading of the physical copy versus reading an egalley. I can't wait to see what you think about Speechless, I really liked that one and it's one I could actually see myself re-reading. Hope you enjoy them ALL Kara!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked it, Jenni. Everyone seems to love that book. I can't wait to read it.

Same here. I liked it but there is definitely room for improvement and that book freaked me out too. Can't wait to see what happens next!
