Stacking the Shelves #2

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga's Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

There is a locally owned used bookstore chain that I love in our area of the Metroplex.  After Christmas, the stores will always hold a sale week for anyone anxious to get rid of their well-earned Christmas cash. I can’t pass on a sale. In fact, “sale” is one of my favorite words, ever.  It is like magic.  Those brightly colored display signs proudly promising a reduction of overpriced stock has a special place in my heart. In the Kindle department, I have a gift from Kara herself, and a book I purchased in honor of the Indie Book Festival

Books:

From Top to Bottom:

Bleeding Violet: Based in Texas, and I love that cover

Howl’s Moving Castle: One of my Resolutions for this year is to red more classic books.  I have also wanted this book for a long, long time. I love the movie with all of my heart.

The Vikings: Culture and Conquest: I love Vikings.  It is my thing (obsession).  I also look for books on Vikings for research for my book, the one that I seem to never get close to finishing or releasing.

The Cry of the Icemark: Redheaded warrior princesses melt my frozen fantasy-wary heart.

The Masks of Odin: Wisdom of the Ancient Norse: Because I want to quote a wise saying of Odin to counter any religion forced upon me in my life.  I can’t wait to read this one.

Goddess of the North: One reason I love Norse mythology is the role of women.  They have an AWESOME role.

Kindle:

172 Hours on the Moon: Kara gifted this to me. That is practically a BFF bracelet in my world. I will officially kill for her now. Watch out world.

No Way Back: I think the story sounds very captivating – I really hope to enjoy this one. This is the book I purchased from the Indie Book Festival.

Now it is time for everyone else to 'fess up – what books blessed your bookshelves after the holidays?

    1. I can recommend some great books to help you with Norse mythology.
"The Norse Myths" by Kevin Crossly-Holland is a great place to start.

  3. I have been so curious about 172 Hours, it's so different than anything out there and I think I really need to pick it up and finally see for myself. The girl on No Way Back is gorgeous, but in a natural way, I like that! Great haul, Lyn! I hope you enjoy ALL the books!

  4. I just LOVE Cry of the Icemark! I read it for the first time nearly eight years ago, but I was captivated and have re-read it SO many times. I wasn't a huge fan of the sequel or the final installment, but they weren't BAD - just not as good as the first book. I hope you enjoy it! :)

    1. It looks like a great haul. I hope I don't put these books on my TBR pile for longer than necessary.
Bleeding Violet is a book I have passed over a few times, but I decided to just go for it, especially since I found it in paperback.

  7. 172 Hours on the Moon! I've heard LOTS of super things about that one ... I should try and find a copy. I love a super scary read! Beta looks pretty good, too. I've only read a few Rachel Cohn books, but they were both written with David Levithan, so I'd like to try something where it's just her writing.

    Enjoy all your books!

    1. I am going to have to break down and move up 172 Hours - most people stop by to tell me how great it is. Now I'm curious.

      Thanks!

  9. I have read several of these books. In fact, you have several of my favorite books in your pile. I guess we have the same taste in books. If that is the case then you will really love a book being released in March. It is called, "Stelladaur: Finding Tir Na Nog" by author S. L. Whyte. The story is a young adult fantasy novel with romance. The main character, a sixteen year-old boy, discovers he has unusual powers, which takes him on a journey of discovery. The video clip on the author's website looks amazing! I've watched the video a few times, lol. http://www.stelladaur.com/
