This is Stacking the Shelves #3. This meme is hosted by Tynga at Tynga's Reviews. There will be no vlog or photo this week because every book I have to talk about is either an e-book I purchased, or an e-ARC I got for review.
I'm also not in a really chatty mood because I'm pissed off about what happened to a blogger friend of mine and since it happened on Wednesday, I have been ready to punch a wall. I have not yet decided whether or not this will affect my reviewing/blogging process, but I have already kind of decided to be much pickier about what books I accept for review. I now only work with authors that I have worked with before and/or know are stable and cool about book reviews. That is unless it is a traditionally published book.
I hate to do this because I love indie and self-published authors, but I have seen too much drama lately and it is a decision I did not make lightly. I'm not saying I am doing this forever, but until things calm down, I need to be careful and keep my stress level down. I'm not going to take a risk and review a book I don't like, only to have the author lose their shit and post my personal info or troll my blog. It's just not worth it.
I've already reduced the books I accept for review by A LOT and this also includes traditionally published books. I am TOTALLY aware that some traditionally published authors started drama as well, but most of it comes from self-published authors trolling negative reviews. It just does. And no reviewer deserves to be criticized or harassed for giving their honest opinion on a book. Wendy is my friend. And so were many other of the reviewers that were attacked on Goodreads and on their blogs. What happened is not okay. It will never be okay. And if it EVER happens to me, you can be assured that I will call that author out and not be intimidated. They will rue the day they ever screwed with me. Until then, I will continue to support my fellow reviewers.
I also love authors. I work with authors on a daily basis. I run a successful editing business. The authors I work with would NEVER think of pulling the crap that has gone on lately. Most of them are just as disgusted as I am. So before you say I am an author hater, think about that. I'm just against bullying. Period.
I've said what I needed to say, so onto the books.
I was gifted a copy of On the Island by Tracy Garvis-Graves by Andrea at The Bookish Babe. She loves this book so much and she offered to gift me a copy, so I took it! DUH. Thanks, Andrea! <3
There were a couple of awesome Kindle deals that went on over the last few weeks and I took advantage of that. I bought books 1 and 2 of the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle. They are still free on Amazon if you want to add them to your collection. I've heard great things about this series and am looking forward to reading it. Plus, the author is someone I am glad to call a friend.
I also bought Soulless (Book #1 of the Parasol Protectorate Series) by Gail Carriger, Pure (Book #2 of the Covenant Series) by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Ship Breaker (Book #1 of the Ship Breaker Series) by Paolo Bacigalupi. They were all at great prices on Amazon, so I went for it.
For review I only got two books this week. I got an E-ARC of Dearly, Beloved (Book #2 of the Gone With the Respiration Series) by Lia Habel from NetGalley. I owe thanks for that to the publisher, Del Rey Books. I also got an E-ARC of Exhale (Book #2 of the Just Breathe Trilogy) by Kendall Grey. Thanks, Kendall!
That's it for me this week. Leave me a comment and I will come visit your posts! Until next week, happy reading!
