Kara asked me to do a guest blog post. Since she liked The Royal Dragoneers so much, I thought I would take a moment, and use her blog to explain the timeline of The Saga of the Dragoneers. Firstly, Dragoneers is written for fantasy fans of all ages. I never intended for it to be YA, but early reviewers deemed it so. It isn’t a heavy fantasy. There isn’t a lot of political melodrama, but there is a lot of blasting, crashing, diving, swooping, dragon-riding action. A little bit of romance, strife, and triumph, too.
Take it for what it is... I like to call it:
“What you read after you graduate Hogwarts, because real wizards don’t ride brooms.”
I’ve been asked several times if Crimzon and Clover are dragoneers. They are part of the story, yes, but their lives predate the Saga by about a century. This tie-in will become clearer in the upcoming release Cold Hearted Son of a Witch (The Dragoneers Saga II.) Cold Hearted Son of a Witch will also tie in The First Dragoneer-novella and the flash fiction piece called Marcherian. (Both free here: http://www.wattpad.com/user/MRMathias )
The First Dragoneer- novella is also available free for Kindle for a short time from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YUCBTG ) At the time of this post it is ranked #4 in the kindle store for fantasy/mythology. It’s always free from B&N and Smashwords.
*The novella and the short fiction are not necessary to the novels, but reading them may add to the enjoyment you get from the story.
The timeline for all of the stories related to the saga is as follows.
*The Crimzon & Clover Short Story Series (I & II available now, but many more to come.)
-Approx. A Century Later-
*The First Dragoneer – novella
The Royal Dragoneers – full 400pg. novel
*Marcherian – short “flash” fiction
Cold Hearted Son of a Witch – full length novel to be released Nov/Dec 2011
The Confliction – full length novel Nov/Dec 2012
Jade – full length novel Nov/Dec 2013
There will be many more...
Fantasy Book Critic deemed The Royal Dragoneers(The Dragoneers Saga Book One,) one of the top indie releases of 2010, and it was featured in the first ever Publishers Weekly Indie Select issue. At Barnes and Noble, it has 44 review/ratings, and an average of 4.5 stars. If you want to go on a troll bashing, dragon crashing thrill of a flight, you can read the novella, the flash, and even the first 100 pages of the full length novel free via The Dragoneers homepage here: ( http://www.mrmathias.com/Dragoneers.html )
Thanks to those of you who read this bit of information about my work, and thank you Kara, and Great Imaginations for hosting me today.
Sincerely, M. R. Mathias

I'm very happy to host M.R. Mathias on my blog because I am a huge fan of his work. I've already read and reviewed two of his novels and I intend to keep reading and reviewing them as they come out. In fact, I'm off to read The First Dragoneer novella tonight. I'll have that review for you hopefully as soon as I finish. And I absolutely enjoyed The Royal Dragoneers so I can't wait to read it. There are plenty of links here for you to check out, and I have provided the link to purchase The Royal Dragoneers from Amazon.com if you would like to read it. Thanks for reading. We both appreciate it!

I can't wait to read this book. I've yet to read anything by M. R. Mathias and been disappointed. He has a rare gift for storytelling that is thoroughly engaging and he makes it incredibly easy for the reader to slip away into the world he's created. Definitely on my list of 'always read'

I could not agree more. I've read book one of The Wardstone Trilogy and The Royal Dragoneers. I've loved them both. Always a fan.
ReplyDeleteWow, this post makes me want to buy a Kindle! You're offering quite a bit of writing here for free! FYI, I found this blog post from Mr. Mathias' tweet and I'm glad I read it! Keep up the great work! Now I've just got to get that Kindle...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. And I am especially partial to books for free. :-) I love the "real wizards don't ride brooms". May have to use that.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading it right now and it's awesome. Gabriel, you don't need to have a Kindle to read it. It's also available on Smashwords or you can download Kindle for PC and read it right on your computer.
ReplyDeleteI found M.R.Mathias from twitter. I am halfway through 2 of his books. I find his writing to be smooth and have a natural feel. Very compelling and easy to lose time to. The decriptive nature makes me feel like I am part of the story. I shall be reading more and recommending to my work mates.
ReplyDeleteIf you've read this far down the page, go ahead and follow Kara's blog. I'd appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for chiming in. :-)
Thanks you! Aww shucks. ::blushes:: LOL JK!
